Just as SVN and its members have successfully paved the way in groundbreaking areas such as socially responsible investing and local living economies, our organization is committed to addressing one of the socially responsible business movement’s key challenges - its lack of diversity. During the past decade, SVN has worked to shift the demographics of the socially responsible business movement and its community to include more people of color, youth, and women.
The Bridge Initiative is intentionally focused on diversifying our membership, and creating programs that enable us to 'bridge' to new business leaders and communities that share our vision to build and support a more just and sustainable economy, through business. It is designed to forge these strategic partnerships and to leverage SVN’s unique community of leaders and resources in order to identify, support and promote many of the world's brightest and most innovative social entrepreneurs from under-represented groups such as people of color, women and young people, as well as from under-represented geographic areas throughout the country.
The project is instrumental in raising the profile and voices of diverse entrepreneurs, increasing their access to financial and human capital and bringing diverse opinions, insights and experiences to SVN’s community and the socially responsible business movement. In addition, the project plays a key role in advancing a new generation of socially responsible community-oriented business models— models that are designed to lift people out of poverty while maintaining a commitment to environmentally responsible business practices.
